Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum is one of the many beautiful spots in Jordan. Wadi Rum desert is located in the south of Jordan close to the Saudi Arabian border. It was established as a protected area in 1997 and gained UNESCO world heritage listing in 2011 due to its ecological and cultural significance. The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times as evidenced by the more than 30,000 and counting inscriptions that decorate the sandstone cliffs and large rock faces scattered throughout the desert. There is much history and culture to discover and there is an abundance of information to be found should you be inclined to search for it.

The main village located about 12 kilometers past the Visitor's Center has a population of about 2000. The majority are Bedouin and previously lived a nomadic lifestyle in Wadi Rum and the surrounding areas, residing in black and white goat hair tents. In the 1980's a village sprouted and gradually the Bedouin tribe began to set up roots in village allowing the children to go to school. There are still families who continue the nomadic lifestyle but  not so many and it is no longer the norm.

Once you arrive in the area you will see and experience the diverse landscape for yourself. Our team will be more than happy to share some of the secrets of the desert with you.
